The South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) Clinical Governance Committee provides strategic direction and oversight of safety, quality, risk management and patient experience across SMHS. The Committee helps make sure our health services are safe, high quality and focused on what matters most to patients and families.

The Committee ensures lessons are learnt and shared across services to make experiences and outcomes better for everyone. We do this by monitoring patient feedback and clinical incidents and identifying opportunities to improve care.

We are looking for a consumer representative to join the Committee. This is an opportunity to share your experiences and ideas and help make sure the consumer voice is included in important decisions about healthcare.

What is involved

  • The Committee meets once a month for approximately 1.5 hours.
  • Meetings are held during business hours and may be online (Microsoft Teams) or in person.
  • You will be sent information before meetings to read and think about.
  • During meetings, you will be invited to share your views and ideas.
  • There may be occasional follow-up emails or opportunities to be involved in small projects or working groups.
  • You will be remunerated (paid) in line with the SMHS Consumer and Carer participation policy.
  • We can provide support to help you feel confident in the role, including meeting briefings and a contact person.

Preferred applicants

  • People with experience using SMHS health services (as a patient, carer or family member).
  • People who are interested in helping improve healthcare.
  • People who are comfortable sharing their thoughts and listening to others in a committee setting.
  • People who can bring a community or consumer perspective to discussions.
  • Previous experience in committees, advisory groups or consumer networks (desirable but not essential).
