How South Metropolitan Health Service celebrates Harmony Week

Harmony Week is observed between 15th and 21st of March and is a time to celebrate our cultural diversity, inclusiveness, and promote a sense of belonging for all - from the traditional owners of the land to those who have come from many countries around the world.

Staff across SMHS are encouraged to celebrate cultural diversity in a number of ways across the week.

How can I get involved?

Visit a display on Friday 21 March

There will be displays set up at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Fremantle Hospital, Rockingham General Hospital and Peel Health Campus on Friday 21st March. If you are visiting one of our hospitals that day, you are welcome to visit a display and discover information about the cultural diversity in our community.

Did you know Friday 21st March is the International Day of Elimination of Racial Discrimination? It is chosen to mark the end of Harmony Week as a day of reflection, reminding us of the negative consequences of racial discrimination.

Our Taste of Harmony eBook 2024

Food is a way of connecting with others, and serves as a representation of our heritage, history, and values.

In 2024, we invited staff at our sites to help us create the first edition of the SMHS Taste of Harmony eBook. We were inundated with recipes that represented countries including Brazil, Spain and Pakistan. You can download this eBook below.

We would love to continue to grow this recipe collection and provide a second edition of the eBook. If you have a wonderful recipe from your heritage, please share it in the link below.
